Nancy T. Buckner, Commissioner
It’s my great pleasure to welcome you to the Alabama Department of Human
Resources website. DHR is Alabama’s primary social service agency and
touches one out of every four people in Alabama. While protecting
children and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect or exploitation is a
critical function of DHR, we also provide a variety of services to the
citizens of Alabama. Many of DHR’s programs are designed to help
low-income families, but we also have several programs that are
available to anyone who needs them.
All of our programs are administered at the county level with support
from the state office in Montgomery. Our roughly 4300 employees work
diligently to provide the many benefits that the people of Alabama would
otherwise struggle without. With offices in all 67 counties, these
employees serve a vital role in their communities. Not only in their
jobs at DHR, but also as active participants in local churches, schools,
and civic organizations.
This website is designed to provide you with the information you need to
locate services that may help you, your family members or your friends.
Whether you are seeking information concerning locating a daycare
center, qualifying for food assistance or getting help establishing and
collecting child support, this website is a great starting point to find
the services provided by DHR.
Please use this website as your resource for information concerning the
Alabama Department of Human Resources.
